Ready to cooperate with Canada being a model of coexistence and social tolerance, the Grand Imam to Speaker of Canadian Senate
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received George J. Furey, the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, and his accompanying delegation during their visit to Cairo.
The Grand Imam explained that Al-Azhar is the oldest educational institution its role for more than a thousand years where millions of students study at various university levels. In addition, Al-Azhar plays an important social role in consolidating the values of peace and social coexistence in Egypt. The Egyptian Family House is one of the most important institutions through which Al-Azhar plays this role in cooperation with the Egyptian Church.
The Canadian delegation said Al-Azhar’s moderate discourse contributes to confronting extremism and terrorism, with an enlightened vision that empowers youth and women in society. The members of the Canadian Senate expressed their appreciation for the successes achieved by Al-Azhar in communicating with different religions and confronting violence around the world.
