Al-Azhar-Church relationship must be invested in promoting noble values and confronting bad social habits, the Grand Imam to Pope Tawadros II
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of Alexandria, Patriarch of the See of St. Mark who congratulated His Eminence on the blessed ˁEid ul-Adha and his return to the homeland after a successful medical trip to Europe.
The Grand Imam expressed his thanks to His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and his accompanying delegation for congratulating him on the occasion of the blessed ˁEid ul-Adha, stressing that the relationship between Al-Azhar and the Egyptian Church represents a model that must be invested in promoting noble values and morals and confronting bad social customs and traditions.
Pope Tawadros II, together with all Egyptians, affirmed his pleasure that the Grand Imam is in good health after his last medical trip. He added that the Egyptian tradition of celebrating religious feasts and occasions together reflects the spirit of love that unites the Egyptian Muslims and the Christians and embodies their cohesion and unity that have always been resistant to attempts of tearing apart the Egyptian social fabric.
Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar Gomaa, Minister of Religious Endowments (Awqaf), and Dr. Shawki Allam, the Grand Mufti of Egypt, Mahmoud Al-Sharif, President of As-Sadah Al-ˀAshrāf Syndicate, and First Deputy of the House of Representatives, and Dr. Abdul Hadi Al-Qasabi, the Grand Sheikh of Sufi orders, all attended the meeting. Sheikh Saleh Abbas, Deputy of Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Dr. Muhammad Al-Mahrasawi, President of Al-Azhar University, and Dr. Nazir Ayad, Secretary General of the Islamic Research Academy also attended the meeting.
