His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received Dr. Fouad Siniora, former Prime Minister of Lebanon, and his accompanying delegation and Mr. Amr Moussa, former Secretary of the League of Arab States, on the inauguration of the first Egyptian-Lebanese Cultural Forum. The Grand Imam affirmed that our Arab nation possesses the factors of unity that qualify it to keep abreast with the nations that have successfully sustained a commensurable climate for unity and development. He stressed the need to remove all obstacles preventing realization of the dream of Arab union and integration sought by Arab peoples. He also explained that Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif promotes the unity and stability of the Lebanese people and hopes that, building on the country’s long history of coexistence among all sects and parties, Lebanon will restore its national cohesion. The Grand Imam then pointed out that Al-Azhar is fully aware of the on-goings in the Arab and Muslim world, and that it undertakes its due role in confronting terrorist ideology, and promoting the values of peace, tolerance, and moderation at all levels. For his part, Dr. Siniora congratulated the Grand Imam on his nomination as the most influential Islamic figure in the world, for his role in establishing the values of peace and justice, and for redressing the image of Islam in the West.
