Al-Azhar Grand Imam receives a high-level delegation of Ministers of Endowments and Muftis of Muslim countries
Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif received, on Tuesday at the headquarters of Al-Azhar, Prof. Muhammad Mukhtar Jumaa, Minister of Endowments (Awqaf) and Chairman of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, accompanied by a high-level delegation of Ministers of Endowments and Islamic Affairs and Muftis of a number of Muslim countries. The delegation included Sheikh Noor Al-Haq Qadri, Minister of Religious Affairs of Pakistan, Sheikh Hajj Musa Darami, Minister of Religious Affairs of Gambia, Dr. Mahmoud Al-Habbash, Chief Judge of Palestine, Advisor to the Palestinian President for Islamic Affairs, and Sheikh Hatem Muhammad Helmy, the Palestinian Minister of Endowments, Sheikh Sha’ban Ramadan Mubaji, Mufti of Uganda, and Dr. Luqman Abdullah, Mufti of Malaysia, on the side-lines of the 32nd Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs Conference entitled: “Citizenship and its Impact on Social and World Peace”.
The Grand Imam welcomed the Ministers and Muftis at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, being in their second country, Egypt, wishing that the conference would be successful and would come up with practical recommendations that help enhance the concept of citizenship regardless of creed, colour or gender, pointing to the importance of joint and permanent coordination among religious institutions in the world, especially regarding urgent and emerging issues. The meeting discussed the role of Al-Azhar International Academy for the Training of Imams and Preachers, and the need to work on designing training programs that suit the needs of each society and match the challenges facing it. The meeting also touched on the role of Al-Azhar’s institutes prevalent in the Muslim countries to promote the true Islamic religion, ways of boosting Academic and cultural cooperation, eliminating the obstacles facing the foreign students to join Al-Azhar, and discussing finding immediate solutions to them.
On their part, the members of the delegation expressed their pleasure to meet the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, their appreciation for the efforts His Eminence exerts in promoting the true Islamic religion, and confronting the negative image that some are trying to propagate against this true religion, stressing their commitment with Al-Azhar’s mild moderate approach, thanking Al-Azhar for sending envoys of teachers, imams and preachers to educate the children of the Muslims all over the world.
