Al-Azhar Grand Imam receives Head of Evangelical Community and accompanying delegation to congratulate him on the occasion of blessed ˁEid ul-Fiṭr
Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif received, on Thursday at the headquarters of Al-Azhar, Dr. Pastor André Zaki, President of the Evangelical community and a high-level delegation of leaders of the Evangelical community to congratulate him on the occasion of the blessed ˁEid ul-Fiṭr. The Grand Imam expressed his pleasure to meet fellow brothers and friends from the Evangelical Church under the leadership of dear brother Dr. André Zaki, expressing his sincere congratulations on the occasion of Easter, calling on Allah Almighty to bless our beloved Egypt and bestow upon it goodness, security, love and peace.
The Grand Imam stressed that the unity of Muslims and Christians and their participation in all occasions and feasts presents to the world a living model of coexistence among the citizens of the same country based on correct understanding of our true religion, and not just as a part of courtesies or formalities as claimed by those who are ignorant of the philosophy of religion and its role in enhancing love and peace among all people. HE added, “When you find this openness on my part, this is because I draw upon the divine messages of Moses, Jesus and our Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon them all”.
On his part, the Head of the Evangelical Community said, “We wish Your Eminence and all Muslims in Egypt and the world permanent peace, health and compassion, and wish our beloved country to enjoy continued progress and prosperity. We cherish this distinguished relationship with Your eminence, being a representative of great human values and a source of peace and coexistence”.
The Head of the Evangelical Community pointed out that the recent statements of the Grand Imam on the relationship between Muslims and Christians has a healing effect on our country and represent “authentic positions that contribute to safeguarding peace and common existence in society”. He also expressed his pride in his personal relationship with the Grand Imam, describing him as “not just a spiritual leader for Muslims, but also so for all Egyptians”.
