The Human Fraternity Document is a call for humanity to come together, engage in dialogue, and shoulder the responsibility of protecting human dignity, Head of the Lebanese OAM
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, received today, Monday, at Al-Azhar, a delegation of the Antonine Maronite Order (OAM) in Lebanon, headed by Father Bechara Elia.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam stressed the importance of unifying religions and religious institutions and scholars to pressure for an immediate end to wars and conflicts around the world, particularly the Zionist aggression against innocents in Gaza in a world witnessing an unprecedented state of mad leadership and bloodshed. His Eminence denounced, saying: “How can we imagine peace with a world led by mentalities that know nothing but the language of power, stripped of all meanings of mercy and humanity?”
The Maronite delegation expressed their happiness at meeting the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and their great appreciation for His Eminence's great efforts in spreading the values of human brotherhood, promoting positive coexistence and acceptance of others. The head of the delegation stated: “I greet you with appreciation and pure love, which I carry from my country and my church in Lebanon, thanking you for your historic role. Your Eminence is a wise authority and a unifying symbol, in a time when disputes and conflicts are rife, and when the voice of religion is rarely heeded. Your Eminence is a comprehensive authority capable of carrying the message of religion, in a world dominated by chaos, wars and conflicts that try to hide behind the guise of religion."
The head of the delegation emphasized the importance of the historic Human Fraternity Document signed by the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and the late Pope Francis, stating, “This document was not written in ink alone, but with the pain and aspirations of people. It is not a lifeless text, but rather living words that carry within them a call to all of humanity to come together, engage in dialogue, and shoulder the responsibility of protecting human dignity.” The delegation proposed to His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, Pope of the Vatican, issuing joint commandments and principles that would encourage our Islamic and Christian worlds to move forward in dialogue, within the framework of a joint institution under the supervision of the two religious figures.
