Grand Imam of Al-Azhar orients the Al-Azhar Islamic Research Academy (AIRA) to intensify awareness campaigns and study emerging issues
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Dr. Ahmad At-Tayyeb chaired the third meeting of the Council of the Islamic Research Academy in its fifty-sixth round to discuss the new issues presented to the AIRA. During the meeting, His Eminence discussed with the members the key emerging issues on the scene, and the promotion of advocacy work in the different Egyptian governorates aiming to raise awareness of religious issues and their respective religious rulings. The discussions involved raising the level of religious awareness among the Egyptians, intensifying awareness campaigns, and interaction through social media with young people, responding to all their questions. The academy board also reviewed the letters received from official institutions and authorities inside and outside Egypt requesting Al-Azhar opinion on religious issues, with the purpose of carefully studying them and coming up with opinions that reflect the moderation of Islam and its connection to people’s reality. The Grand Imam oriented the AIRA members to address directly all issues that bear on daily life, including issues linked to extremism and radicalism, and bring up the most appropriate approaches to them in a manner accessible to all. His Eminence, the Grand Imam, also indicated the necessity of planning intensive training courses for male and female preachers, by relying on the cutting-edge technologies, allowing them the opportunity to communicate with young people through social media. He then stressed the need to combine Sharia sciences, human and social sciences, and natural sciences. In this way, male and female preachers will be exposed to as much information as possible in the different disciplines during these training courses.
