Grand Imam meets Pakistan’s Ambassador in Cairo to boost academic and religious cooperation
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb received Mr. Aamir Shouket, Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Egypt, at Al-Azhar headquarters. The meeting discussed ways to enhance academic and religious cooperation between Al-Azhar and religious institutions in Pakistan.
His Eminence the Grand Imam expressed Al-Azhar's pride in the historical ties that it has with Pakistan, noting that Al-Azhar always opens its doors to members of the Islamic nation and pays special attention to Pakistani students as part of its mission to spread the moderate approach. He explained that Al-Azhar plays a pivotal role in training students and disseminating its moderate approach, an approach that combines authenticity and openness, preserving fundamental principles and respecting diversity.
The Pakistani Ambassador, for his part, expressed his country's appreciation for the Grand Imam's efforts to promote moderate Islam, as well as the Pakistani people's pride in Al-Azhar as a leading religious authority for the Islamic world. He commended its role in graduating influential Pakistani scholars who have contributed to consolidating the concepts of moderation and spreading true awareness of the teachings of Islam.
The Grand Imam and Mr. Shouket discussed the possibility of expanding scholarship and academic exchange programs, strengthening partnerships in training imams and preachers, coordinating efforts to combat extremist ideology, and protecting youth from the calls for deviation and extremism.
