Grand Imam mourns legal scholar Dr. Ali al-Ghateet
With acceptance of Allah's will, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, mourns Dr. Ali Hamed al-Ghateet, the veteran lawyer, professor of international law, and prominent jurist, who passed away this Thursday morning after a lifelong journey in which he spared no effort in serving his country.
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar recalls the deceased's love for Al-Azhar and his constant concern for its public and private affairs. He dedicated his life to serving his country through various assignments throughout his professional career. He served as a special advisor to the Egyptian Parliament and participated in the drafting of several Egyptian laws and legislation. His publications in the field of international law and international conflicts were and will remain an important reference for students and legal researchers. He was also a member of the defense team for the French philosopher Roger Garaudy in French courts.
The Grand Imam also extends his sincere condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the deceased's family, students and friends, praying to Allah Almighty to bestow His vast mercy and forgiveness upon him, to grant him a place in His spacious Paradise, and to grant his family and relatives patience and solace. “Indeed we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”
