Grand Imam condoles Sudan over Marra Mountain disaster, calls for humanitarian and relief support
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb offered his sincere condolences and deepest sympathy to the brotherly Sudanese people for the victims of the horrific landslide that struck the Marra Mountains region in Darfur, killing more than 1,000 people in one of the most devastating natural disasters Sudan has witnessed in its modern history.
His Eminence affirms his full solidarity with his brothers in Sudan in this great ordeal, calling on the international community and relief organizations to move quickly to provide the necessary humanitarian and relief support, contribute to rescuing the victims, and mitigate the effects of this humanitarian disaster. He asserted that standing with Sudan at this critical moment is a humanitarian and moral duty that cannot be postponed. He called on Almighty Allah to bestow His vast mercy upon the victims, to grant them a place in His spacious Paradise, and to provide their families with patience and solace. “Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return.”
