Al-Azhar Grand Imam mourns Malaysian Islamic Thinker Dr. Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas
Accepting Allah’s will and decree, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, mourns the Malaysian Islamic thinker Dr. Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas, who passed away after a distinguished academic career marked by generous contributions and service to Islamic thought.
Al-Azhar affirms that the deceased was a leading figure in modern Islamic thought, whose writings and works enriched Islamic philosophy and had a significant impact on shaping important intellectual discussions on issues of identity and civilization.
While mourning this eminent Islamic scholar, Al-Azhar extends its sincere condolences to his esteemed family, as well as to scholars and students in Malaysia and across the Muslim world, praying that Almighty Allah envelop the deceased in His vast mercy, reward him abundantly for his beneficial knowledge, and grant his family and loved ones patience and solace. “To Allah we belong and to Him we shall return.”
