Al-Azhar Grand Imam receives phone call from Pope Tawadros II extending Eid al-Fitr greetings

His Eminence Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received a phone call from His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church and Patriarch of the See of St. Mark, extending his congratulations on the approaching occasion of Eid al-Fitr. His Holiness conveyed his wishes for a blessed and joyous Eid for His Eminence and for Muslims, praying that these happy occasions return to beloved Egypt in an atmosphere of fraternity uniting the nation’s people—Muslims and Christians alike. He also commended the role played by the Grand Imam in spreading awareness, promoting enlightened thought, and reinforcing the values of citizenship, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence.

For his part, the Grand Imam expressed his appreciation for this fraternal call from His Holiness Pope Tawadros II, affirming that such occasions represent renewed opportunities to highlight the strength of national unity that binds the people of the nation. He noted Al-Azhar’s pride in its relations with the Egyptian churches, which culminated in the establishment of Egyptian Family House—a unique model of cooperation between Al-Azhar scholars and church leaders that has played an effective role in confronting sectarian strife and promoting social stability.
