The Comoros Foreign Minister surprises the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar with an official visit at the head of a delegation of Al-Azhar graduates.

 

The Comoros Foreign Minister: “I am a graduate of Al-Azhar, and we have come to you as an official delegation of Al-Azhar graduates in appreciation of Al-Azhar’s immense grace toward us and the rest of the people of the Comoros.”

 

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received today, Sunday, at Al-Azhar headquarters, His Excellency Mr. Mohamed Mbaé Chanfiou, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Union of the Comoros, to discuss ways to enhance Al-Azhar’s scientific and dawah support for the people of the Comoros.

 

The Grand Imam affirmed Al-Azhar's pride in its historical ties with the Republic of the Comoros, noting the significant role played by Comorian students in strengthening and consolidating these relations. He explained that Al-Azhar allocates 40 scholarships annually to Comorian students to study various knowledge disciplines. Currently, 735 Comorian students are enrolled at Al-Azhar, and the Grand Imam emphasized Al-Azhar's readiness to increase the number of scholarships to meet the needs of this Muslim nation and align with its educational and dawah requirements.

 

For his part, the Comorian Foreign Minister expressed his profound happiness at meeting His Eminence and his country's deep appreciation for the Grand Imam and Al-Azhar's role in serving the causes of the Muslim Ummah and supporting Muslims worldwide, particularly in Africa. He also requested that His Eminence increase the number of Al-Azhar scholarships allocated to Comorian students, emphasizing that attending Al-Azhar is a dream and a great honor for the Comorians.

 

 

The minister said: “I am a graduate of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, and I joined Al-Azhar in the preparatory stage until my graduation from the Faculty of Languages and Translation. Today I come to Your Eminence at the head of a full official delegation of Comorian graduates of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif in appreciation of Al-Azhar’s favors towards us. We take pride in what Al-Azhar’s distinguished scholars have taught us. In fact, Al-Azhar graduates enjoy a great position in our society, and hold many leadership and diplomatic positions in the Comoros.”

 

 

The official delegation accompanying the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Comoros included several graduates of Al-Azhar University: His Excellency Ambassador Atta Allah Effendi, Ambassador of the Republic of the Comoros to Egypt—a graduate of the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion; His Excellency Minister Abdul Aziz Madhouma, Minister Plenipotentiary at the Embassy—a graduate of the Faculty of Sharia and Law; Mr. Nazar Dahlan, First Secretary at the Embassy—a graduate of the Faculty of Languages and Translation; and Mr. Omar Jamal Al-Layl, Diplomatic Attaché at the Embassy—a graduate of the Faculty of the Arabic Language.
