Al-Azhar Grand Imam denounces a terrorist run-over assault killing a Muslim family in Canada
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb and scholars of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif strongly condemn the deadly terrorist attack that targeted a Muslim family in London, Canada, resulting in the “martyrdom of a Muslim family” of four members, being slammed by a pickup truck driven by a far-right terrorist. The Grand Imam asserted that extremist far right groups have begun to practice terrorism and killings in Western societies, posing a threat to harmless citizens, following in the footsteps of extremists and terrorist groups in the East. He then warned against the spread of Islamophobia and the shedding of the blood of innocent people, calling on the international community and wise people worldwide to take the initiative towards putting an end to such terrorist trends and saving the world from their evil threat and destructive impact, listing them as world terrorist groups. He also noted that the far right groups in the West and ISIS are two sides of one and the same coin and that terrorism is not an Eastern product, but - as proven through yesterday’s accidents – is rather a Western product that grows and flourishes under suspicious international silence.
On another note, the Grand Imam offered his heart-felt condolences to the Muslims in the West, and those in Canada in particular, and to the relatives and friends of the victims, asking Allah Almighty to shower them with his boundless mercy and forgiveness, and to dwell them in Paradise: “Surely, we belong to Allah and unto Him we shall return.”
