Grand Imam checks on a Thai student and instructs that care be given to him
The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, was keen to check on the health of the Thai student Hussein Maming, a student at the Faculty of Islamic Sharia, after he had underwent a delicate surgery and suffered consequent complications. HE the Grand Imam communicated with him, checked on his condition and prayed for his speedy recovery. The Grand Imam also directed competent officials in Al-Hussein University Hospital, of Al-Azhar University, and the Egyptian House of Zakat and Charity, to pay attention to and follow up on the student’s health condition, and to provide him with appropriate treatment free of charge.
The doctors had decided that a spleen removal surgery should be performed on Maming, but his mother could not come to Egypt to sign the consent form, especially since two people from the student’s family had previously died of the same disease he was suffering. Hence, the student had to travel back to Thailand at Al-Azhar’s expense to perform the surgery there. Following a successful surgical operation, Maming returned to Egypt to pursue his studies at the Faculty of Islamic Sharia, and there he suffered some post-surgery complications. The doctors thus decided that he needed intensive care and very expensive medicine which was beyond him, especially since his parents had already been dead. When the Grand Imam knew of Maming’s condition, he quickly directed that due care be given to him, and accordingly Al-Azhar provided him with all necessary medical and academic requirements.
