Grand Imam of Al-Azhar receives UAE Minister of Tolerance in Rome
Today, Wednesday, at his residence in Rome, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received HE Sheikh Nahyan Mubarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Tolerance. The Grand Imam stated that the global arena is now more than ever prepared for coexistence and acceptance of the other, given the efforts made by religious leaders to promote a culture of peace and brotherhood and to clarify the position of each religion regarding the openness of its followers towards the adherents of the other religion. These efforts also include sustaining positive integration among the followers of different religions, closing the doors in the face of the promoters of hatred and intolerance-mongers. The Grand Imam emphasized that the meetings of the representatives of religions to discuss all contemporary issues and find solutions to them is a practical model for fruitful interfaith dialogue. He praised the role of the UAE in supporting the values of tolerance and brotherhood, which was evident in its historic hosting of the cosigning of the Human Fraternity Document, a beacon that illuminates the way for all lovers of goodness and peace. For his part, the UAE Minister of Tolerance expressed his pleasure to meet the Grand Imam, stressing that Al-Azhar is the safety valve of the Muslim nation, and that the positions of the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar fully express the truth of Islam, its moderation and tolerance. He added that the UAE is continuing to establish a culture of tolerance and to support the values of coexistence and human fraternity, as advocated by HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi.
