In response to an official invitation from the Iraqi Prime Minister, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar visits Iraq in January 2024
• Al-Azhar Grand Imam will make a historic visit to Iraq next January
In a telephone conversation between HE Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, and HE Mohammed Shayya’ Al-Sudani, the Iraqi Prime Minister, it is agreed that the Grand Imam’s upcoming visit to Iraq will be in next January.
HE At-Tayyeb affirmed to Mr. Al-Sudani his pleasure to visit the brotherly Iraq, the country deeply rooted in history, a seat of Arabism and a cradle of civilization and prophets. He also expressed his appreciation and love for the brotherly Iraqi people.
For his part, Mr. Al-Sudani expressed his pleasure with this forthcoming and important visit, for which Iraqis of all affiliations and denominations are waiting. The significance of the visit, he added, springs from the fact that HE At-Tayyeb enjoys great Arab, Muslim and international appreciation, and hence his visit to Iraq will be of great interest to all Iraqis. Mr. Al-Sudani also imputed the significance of the visit to the considerable status that Al-Azhar, the largest Muslim institution in the world, fills in the hearts of Muslims.
HE At-Tayyeb pays great attention to this visit due to its importance in sustaining the causes of the Muslim nation, foremost of which is its unity, solidarity and cohesion. The visit, which was prepared for a long time ago, but postponed due to the Corona-related restrictions, has been rescheduled upon the renewed official and popular Iraqi invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Iraq.
