H.E. Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, congratulated Dr. Hany Eteiba, alumnus of the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Azhar University, on his assuming the presidency of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow, being the first Egyptian and Azharite to assume such a post in this prestigious college whose history extends to more than 425 years.
In a phone call with Dr. Eteiba, Grand Imam At-Tayyeb applauded this historic scientific achievement, noting, “The Glasgow’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons is honored to have you as President. You undoubtedly represent a great addition through the knowledge you possess, your great experience and global capabilities that qualify you to lead this historical scientific institute towards broader horizons of success and prosperity.”
Dr Hany Eteiba had obtained his Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery from Al-Azhar University in 1979. He later served as a deputy in the Cardiology Department at Al-Azhar Faculty of Medicine. After earning his Master's degree from the same faculty in 1983, he travelled on a scientific mission to the United Kingdom to pursue a PhD in Interventional Cardiology.
He started serving at Glasgow’s Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons and later became one of the leading consultants in Interventional Cardiology.
Recently, the College announced Eteiba’s election as its president, making him the first Egyptian and Arab physician to hold this position.
The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons in Glasgow is one of the most important medical colleges in the world, and the election process is carried out through global election from all medical colleges in all world countries, the case which makes the election of an Egyptian and Azharite physician for this high position a clear evidence of the enormous potential and capabilities that the Egyptians possess, which qualify them to assume the highest positions in major international organizations and institutions, in all fields.
