The Grand Imam: It pains me that some people are accustomed to scenes of killing in Gaza

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Mr. Fouad Siniora, former Prime Minister of Lebanon, Wednesday morning at Al-Azhar headquarters.

 

His Eminence said that he is greatly pained by the ongoing current situation in Gaza in light of this inhumane, unjustified global silence. He added that what hurts him the most is what we see of normalization and habituation of the scenes of killing innocent children, women, the elderly and youth, and the bombing of displaced persons, hospitals, ambulances, shelters and camps, to the point that some people are now following the news of this bloody aggression while eating their daily meals in front of their TVs. 

 

This, he said, indicates that many of us have lost sense of the suffering of the Palestinians, and are indifferent to the torrents of innocent blood that is being spelled.

 

His Eminence added that the greatest challenge that our Arab nation suffers from is the external attempts aimed at eliminating all opportunities for Arab coalition, unity, or reconciliation among the fabric of the Arab nation. He stressed that Arab awareness is what we count on in stopping this Zionist aggression, which has proven that the Palestinian cause is engraved in the hearts, conscience and minds of Arabs and Muslims all over the world.

 

 

For his part, Mr. Siniora said that the situation in Gaza has repercussions on all Arab countries, especially Egypt, Jordan, and Lebanon, which are most affected by this aggression, and it is a major challenge facing our Arab and Islamic nation, considering the attempts of the Zionist entity to liquidate the Palestinian issue. He indicated that the way out of this crisis will only be resolved by rearranging the Arab fold, recalibrating the Arab compass towards the Palestinian issue, and publicizing the rights of the Palestinian people, especially at the global level, and, finally, achieving unity and solidarity to immediately stop this Zionist aggression against Gaza.
