The UN Secretary-General thanks the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar for honoring him with the MCE Shield

HE Prof. Ahmed Al-Tayeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, received a message from Mr. Antonio Guterres, Secretary-General of the United Nations, in which the latter expressed his gratitude to the Grand Imam for receiving him at the Headquarters of Al-Azhar and honoring him with the Shield of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), during his visit to Egypt on March 24.

"Allow me to reiterate my appreciation to you for our meeting that day and our discussion on promoting peace, understanding, and interfaith dialogue. I would like to thank you for your tireless efforts in promoting unity among different societies while advocating tolerance and compassion,” Mr. Guterres added in his message to Grand Imam At-Tayyeb,

It is worth noting that Grand Imam At-Tayyeb received Mr. Guterres last month at Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif and praised his courageous stances in support of Palestinian rights, justice, and human rights in Gaza. He also applauded his clear position to warn the world of the dangers of this aggression and the great efforts made by UNRWA towards refugees and those fleeing the fires of aggression.
