Sudanese Ambassador to Egypt: Sudanese people are filled with love for Al-Azhar, our hearts are attached to its scholars, and we appreciate its continued support.
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received Lt. General Imad Al-Din Mustafa Adawi, Ambassador of the Republic of Sudan to Egypt, today, Thursday, at Al-Azhar headquarters. Lt. General Adawi presented an official invitation from General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Military Council (TMC) for Al-Azhar Grand Imam to visit the country and discuss intensifying educational and dawah support provided to the Republic of Sudan.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Sudanese Ambassador delivered the invitation of General Al-Burhan to the Grand Imam to visit the country, and His Excellency’s greetings to His Eminence for providing unlimited support to the people of Sudan through Al-Azhar’s services in various medical, educational and dawah fields. He expressed their great appreciation for the role played by Al-Azhar in the ongoing crisis in Sudan.
His Eminence expressed his great pain at the magnitude of the ordeal that befell the people of Sudan. He added that Egyptian people share their grief, sympathize with them, and pray to Allah to relieve their distress and help them unite for the best interest of the country and the people who have suffered - and are still suffering - from the scourges of conflict and discord. He emphasized that since the outbreak of the current crisis in Sudan, Al-Azhar has spared no effort to support Sudan, and issued a decree to treat the Sudanese students applying to study at Al-Azhar the same way as Egyptian students, in terms of facilitating the procedures and offering scholarships.
His Eminence pointed out that there are more than a thousand Sudanese students, male and female, studying at Al-Azhar, which offers 310 scholarships to Sudanese students to enroll in Azhari education. In addition, Al-Azhar has permanent committees actively working at Al-Azhar University and the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House to discuss providing the necessary support to our Sudanese brothers who are in Egypt.
The Sudanese Ambassador, for his part, expressed his country’s appreciation for Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and its efforts in serving the nation’s issues. He also expressed his happiness for being in Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, the great Islamic institution that is rich with ancient history. He added that the Sudanese people are filled with love for Al-Azhar and its scholars and professors. He thanked the Grand Imam for his continued support for the Sudanese students and added that Al-Azhar is the largest institution that has provided educational opportunities and scholarships to them, and that the Egyptian Zakat and Charity House - the charitable arm of Al-Azhar - has made great efforts and contributed to the treatment of many Sudanese patients.
The Sudanese Ambassador presented a memorandum to the Grand Imam to facilitate the training of intern doctors at the student hospitals affiliated with Al-Azhar University, given the interruption of training as a result of current events in several regions in Sudan. He declared, “We are in dire need of these doctors at the present time more than ever before. The Sudanese hospitals also need to be supported by the necessary and essential medical equipment and devices.”
His Eminence directed the leaderships of Al-Azhar University to urgently facilitate the enrollment of Sudanese interns and to submit a periodic report to His Eminence to identify the most prominent obstacles and solve them as quickly as possible.
