Grand Imam receives Burundian Ambassador to Egypt

His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, received, today, Monday, at Al-Azhar headquarters, Mr. Omar Ntezimbere, the Burundian Ambassador to Egypt, to discuss ways to enhance Al-Azhar’s scientific and dawah support for the people of Burundi.
 
 
His Eminence said that Al-Azhar provides 25 scholarships annually to the Muslim youth in Burundi to study at Al-Azhar, adding that Al-Azhar has 6 teachers sent to Burundi to teach Muslim children the Arabic language and Sharia sciences. He added that Al-Azhar is ready to increase the number of scholarships provided to the state of Burundi and to make them include Arab and Sharia faculties as well as scientific faculties such as medicine, engineering, and pharmacy in a way that meets the scientific and development needs of the Burundian people.
 
The Burundian Ambassador to Cairo expressed his happiness for meeting the Grand Imam, and his country’s appreciation for the great efforts Al-Azhar is making to support the peoples of the African continent. He stressed that Al-Azhar graduates in Burundi have a good reputation, as they set the standard for spreading moderate, centrist thought, and they also hold many positions. They hold senior and leadership positions in many important bodies, institutions, and ministries in Burundi.
 
Ntezimbere asked the Grand Imam to dedicate the largest number of Al-Azhar scholarships allocated to Burundians to study medicine. His Eminence directed to study this proposal and work to accommodate the desires of the people of Burundi, in a way that contributes to achieving their educational goals.
