His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, welcomed the resolution approved by the UN Security Council, which calls for an end to the aggression on Gaza, a complete withdrawal from the Strip, the release of prisoners and hostages from both sides, the return of the displaced to their homes, the immediate entry of aid into the Gaza Strip, and moving forward towards the reconstruction of Gaza.

 

Al-Azhar hopes that the UN Security Council will be able to provide all the necessary guarantees to implement this resolution, and that all parties will abide by it to spare the blood of innocents. It stresses that this resolution, although it came late and after more than 37,000 victims were killed, is a step in the right direction, and represents a final opportunity to restore confidence in the international community and institutions to enhance international peace and security and grant the Palestinian people their right to establish their independent state.
