Official reception ceremony for the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar upon his arrival at Soekarno–Hatta International Airport in Jakarta

 

In response to an official invitation, His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, arrived at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, a short while ago. This is the third stop on his foreign tour of Southeast Asia, which included Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.

 

The Grand Imam is scheduled to meet with a number of officials, most notably Indonesian President Joko Widodo, Indonesian Minister of Defense and president-elect, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, and a number of religious and cultural leaders in Indonesia to discuss ways to strengthen Al-Azhar and benefit from its preaching and scientific expertise.

 

His Eminence is also keen to meet with Indonesian youth, listen to them, converse with them, and answer their questions about various contemporary issues, through a number of public meetings that His Eminence holds with Indonesian university youth, as well as Indonesian imams, and Islamic preachers.
