Al-Azhar Grand Imam Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received His Excellency President Kais Saied, of the Republic of Tunisia, at Al-Azhar headquarters this afternoon, Sunday, to discuss the most prominent issues of the Arab and Muslim world, and aspects of cooperation between Al-Azhar and the Tunisian Republic in scientific and cultural fields. In the name of Ash-Azhar and its scholars, the Grand Imam welcomed the Tunisian President and said that Al-Azhar and its scholars and students are happy today to receive President Qais Saeed as a dear guest of Egypt and Al-Azhar, stressing that Tunisia has a special place in the heart of every Egyptian. His Eminence added that the Tunisian President's tours in the streets of Cairo reflect the strength of the Egyptian-Tunisian relations, which are an extension of the long history of strong relations that brought the two brotherly countries together. Whoever reads history will find a strong interdependence between the Egyptian and Tunisian peoples for many centuries. Al-Azhar Grand Imam affirmed that the relationship of Tunisians with Egypt is an ancient historical one that started with the transfer of the Fatimid capital from Mahdia to Cairo. Tunisian students and scholars both came to Al-Azhar and became part of its fabric, as students and faculty since ancient times. At the forefront of them is the Tunisian social philosopher Ibn Khaldun, who assumed the teaching chair at Al-Azhar Mosque and the position of Chief Justice of the Malikiyah sect in Egypt; Sheikh Muhammad Al-Khidr Hussein, as Grand Imam of Al-Azhar; the great popular poet Bayram At-Tunisi, and others who had scientific efforts that contributed to the service of the Islamic culture. Pointing out that the Islamic culture has been firmly established in Tunisia since ancient times, the Grand Imam expressed Al-Azhar's readiness to form a joint scientific committee to serve it, and to strengthen scientific and cultural relations between Al-Azhar University and Ezzitouna University in a way that suits the nobility and history of these two universities. In addition, Al-Azhar allocates scholarships for Tunisian students and imams within the framework of Al-Azhar International Academy program for training imams and preachers, which receives imams from different continents of the world to train them to promote moderate thought, combat extremist ideology, and protect the security and stability of countries. Al-Azhar is also ready to prepare joint curricula that deal with contemporary issues. The Grand Imam presented the Tunisian President with a copy of the Human Fraternity Document and the Book of Memory of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif.
