Today’s civilization has removed religion from human life and caused a limitless moral vacuum, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar:
Global chaos has given the right to those who have money, weapons and media to do whatever they want considering the exclusion of values and the inability of laws to deter aggressors, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar
Al-Azhar Grand Imam (GI), Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, received today, Monday, at Al-Azhar HQ, Ambassador Yvonne Baumann, Ambassador of Switzerland to Egypt.
The Grand Imam stated that religion is the guide of morals and values, and its role is pivotal in the safety and stability of societies. He added that we have realized this role in our contemporary world after attempts to exclude it and the resulting state of chaos and confusion that has overthrown many societies. He pointed out that today’s civilization has intentionally removed religion from human life, which has caused a limitless moral vacuum. He stressed that material civilization has deified man and fulfilled all his desires, and this is the reason for the global chaos we see today. In brief, we can say that whoever owns money, weapons, and the media can do whatever they want in light of the exclusion of values and morals, and the weakness of international laws and their inability to deter aggressors.
His Eminence the Grand Imam stressed that Al-Azhar is making great efforts to revive moral values and spread the values of brotherhood and acceptance of others, and he drew attention to the necessity of adhering to these values through educational curricula, preachers and envoys dispatched across the world. He pointed out that being different from one another is a divine law that Allah wanted in His universe, and that if He, the Almighty, had willed, He would have created people similar, but He created them different, and made brotherhood, acceptance of others and respect the basis of the relationship among them.
The Swiss Ambassador, for her part, expressed her great happiness for meeting the Grand Imam, and her country’s appreciation for his efforts to spread the values of brotherhood, peace and tolerance, and to advance dialogue between different religions and cultures, in a way that enhances the stability and cohesion of societies.
Dr. Baumann stressed the importance of religious leaders in spreading tolerance and brotherhood, and enhancing the spirit of rapprochement between different cultures, due to their power of influence. She noted that the historic Human Fraternity Document signed by His Eminence the Grand Imam and His Holiness Pope Francis presented a model for the relationship between religions.
