The United Nations Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations, Mr. Miguel Ángel Moratinos, sent a telegram of condolences to Al-Azhar Grand Imam (GI) and MCE Chairman, Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, expressing his deepest condolences and sympathy to His Eminence on the death of his sister.

 

In his letter, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations said: “I extend to Your Excellency my heartfelt condolences on the passing of your dear sister. The loss of a family member is a loss that resonates deeply in the heart. Please accept my sincere condolences at this difficult time, wishing you and your family patience and strength.”

 

Mr. Moratinos concluded his letter by renewing his deep appreciation for His Eminence the Grand Imam, stressing that His Eminence embodies the values of compassion and brotherhood, principles that form part of the United Nations’ efforts to promote human solidarity.
