The Grand Imam participates in the Emerging Peacemakers Forum
This was the third international tour of the Grand Imam in 2018, during which he was warmly received. He was greeted upon his arrival at Heathrow by Dr. Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury, who had invited the Grand Imam to reside in Lambeth Palace, the seat of the Episcopate.
The Grand Imam began his visit by meeting Queen Elizabeth II at the historic Windsor Castle. His Eminence and the Archbishop also presided over the third round of dialogue between Al-Azhar and the Anglican Church.
His Eminence also met with the youth participating in the Emerging Peacemakers Forum, organized by Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif in cooperation with the Muslim Council of Elders and the Diocese of Canterbury. The forum brought together 50 youth, half of whom are Westerners and the other half Easterners.
During this Britain visit, the Grand Imam met Tony Blair, the former British Prime Minister, Head of the Tony Blair Foundation, together with members of the British Muslim-Christian Forum.
The Grand Imam concluded his visit by presiding over the Muslim Council of Elders meeting, which coincided with its fourth anniversary. Then, it was decided to register the Council as an internationally-accredited body.
