Peace convoys
In 2015, Professor At-Tayyeb, Grand Imam of Al-Azhar and Chairman of the Muslim Council of Elders (MCE), launched the Peace Convoys project, which is a joint effort between Al-Azhar and the Muslim Council of Elders. The activities varied between relief convoys and Da’wah (missionary) convoys through which academic groups, from among Al-Azhar multilingual young male and female scholars specializing in Islamic Sharia and its disciplines, are dispatched to different non-Arabic speaking countries. Such scholars organize intense academic and intellectual activities in cooperation with religious and academic institutions and youth gatherings in those countries. They also organize a number of religious symposia, intellectual meetings and academic lectures with the aim of redressing misconceptions and calling the Muslims to positively integrate into their societies, protecting them against falling into the clutches of extremist and terrorist groups. So, they answer the questions and inquiries raised in respective communities according to Al-Azhar orthodox and moderate approach. They thus confront Islamophobia and reduce religious tension that besets many Muslim communities.

Humanitarian and relief convoys :
Al-Azhar convoys are not limited to academic and Da’wah missions. The Grand Imam commissioned the Al-Azhar Administration of Medical and Relief Convoys to intensify its work inside and outside Egypt towards alleviating the suffering of the needy and the pain of the sick, drawing on the humanitarian
and social role played by Al-Azhar. This role complements Al-Azhar’s Da’wah and educational role.
The aim of the project:
- Underscoring the humane aspect of Islam.
- Inviting Muslims to positive integration into their (Non-Muslim) societies.
- Immunizing young people against the clutches of extremist and terrorist groups.
- Arguing with non-Muslims in a reasonable, wise, and good manner.
- Addressing the key questions preoccupying the minds of young people in these societies.
Several humanitarian, medical and relief convoys were launched, all aiming to provide relief to the afflicted, organize humanitarian and medical aid; academic, intellectual and Da’wah activities; religious seminars and intellectual meetings. On top of these activities are the following:
