His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received a delegation from the Hamas organization headed by Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, Chief of Hamas Political Bureau.

The Grand Imam said that the Palestinian cause is the main issue of the Muslim nation and that, therefore, Al-Azhar is keen to support it and raise the nation's awareness of Palestine's history and its Arab identity.

The Grand Imam explained that terrorist movements are implementing a malicious agenda to move the Muslims away from the Palestinian cause, and to engage them in internal conflicts that are tearing their unity and cohesion in a way that serves the interests of the occupation and fulfills its ambitions to swallow the land of Palestine.

Haniyeh, for his part, thanked the Grand Imam for Al-Azhar’s great support for the Palestinian cause, which was strongly demonstrated in Al-Azhar Global Conference in Support of Jerusalem, which represented an important station to restore the nation’s awareness of the issue. The Chief of the Political Bureau of Hamas also expressed his gratitude for the medical and relief convoys sent by Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif to the Gaza Strip, expressing the aspiration of the Palestinians in Gaza to continue and diversify such convoys.

He added that the nation needed to return to the moderate ideology of Al-Azhar, stressing that the Palestinians are proud of Al-Azhar and its historic positions in support of the Palestinian cause.
