His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Mr. Ali Zahir, Chairman of the Office of Maldives’ President, Dr. Ahmed Zahir, Minister of Islamic Affairs, and Dr. Aishah Ali, Minister of Education.

The delegation conveyed the greetings of the Maldivian President to the Grand Imam and his appreciation for the Grand Imam’s great efforts to promote the values of peace and coexistence and preserve the principles of pluralism and moderation. The Maldivian President stressed his country's keenness to strengthen relations with Al-Azhar and its great pride in its commitment to the moderate approach.

Zahir expressed his country's thanks to Al-Azhar for its support through Al-Azhar missions to the Maldives, and for receiving its students to study in its institutes and university faculties, expressing his country's aspiration for more support in the field of teaching Islamic and Arabic sciences and training its imams and Islamic preachers.

The Grand Imam showed that Al-Azhar’s missionary efforts in the various parts of the world are based on its true message and its role in preserving the correct approach of Islam and protecting the Muslims from intellectual deviations targeting them.
