Grand Imam’s historic stances nullified calls for war and fighting in the name of divine religions, says UCO Chairman
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Dr. Mustapha Benhamza, Chairman of the Ulema Council of Oujda (UCO), member of the Senior Scholars' Council of Morocco. Benhamza praised the Human Fraternity Document launched by Al-Azhar and the Vatican, stressing that it represents the Islamic discourse that should be adopted by all scholars of the nation, and that Al-Azhar, as a co-signer of the document, represents all Muslims in the world.
Benhamza added that history would immortalize the courageous stances of the Grand Imam towards Islamic and humanitarian issues, indicating that these stances preserved the nation’s moderation and tolerance, and nullified the calls for war and fighting in the name of the divine religions.
The Grand Imam expressed his appreciation of the academic efforts of the Ulema Council of Oujda, stressing the need for jurists to live the problems of their societies, and to apply sacred texts to reality, because the validity of Islamic Sharia for every time and place means that it is capable of observing reality and dealing with contemporary issues.
Dr. Mustapha Benhamza gave a lecture to researchers and preachers at Al-Azhar Global Fatwa Center, during which he addressed the problems of fatwa, the most important contemporary issues, and the role of the specialized Islamic jurisprudence bodies and academies in combating the chaos of fatwas by non-specialists who meddle in religious affairs.
