We appreciate Al-Azhar regional and global efforts to promote peace, Polish Foreign Minister to the Grand Imam
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Jacek Czaputowicz, the Polish Minister of Foreign Affairs during his visit to Cairo.
His Eminence welcomed the Polish Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation, stressing that Egypt has strong and deep-rooted relations with Poland, and that Al-Azhar’s first mission is to promote peace throughout the world, referring to Al-Azhar’s experience in establishing the Egyptian Family House in cooperation with the Egyptian Church. This measure has come to establish societal peace among the people of the same nation, and as a launchpad to build bridges of cooperation with different cultures and religions. Such efforts included dialogue with major religious institutions, such as Canterbury Cathedral, the World Council of Churches, and the Vatican, the case which culminated in signing the Human Fraternity Document by Al-Azhar and the Vatican in the UAE capital Abu Dhabi.
The Grand Imam stressed that religions that call for peace are innocent of the terrorist crimes committed in their names, indicating that some global agendas are trying to use religion to achieve personal political agendas, which the faithful religious leaders are trying to confront.
The Polish foreign minister explained that his country, known for its diversity and cultural richness, seeks to benefit from the experience of Al-Azhar in achieving peaceful coexistence. He stressed that his country appreciates the efforts made by Al-Azhar to promote peace in the region and the world, and asserted the importance of the relations between Al-Azhar and the Vatican in defusing tension between the adherents of world religions.
At the end of the meeting, Czaputowicz visited Al-Azhar Observatory for Combating Extremism, and expressed his admiration for the Observatory's response to extremist claims, protecting young people from being deceived by terrorist thought.
