Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Ramón Gil-Casares, the new Spanish Ambassador to Egypt.

The Grand Imam congratulated the Spanish Ambassador on his new diplomatic mission, expressing his sincere wishes for a successful tenure in Egypt.

His Eminence explained that Spain has close and historical relations with the Muslims, the case which was represented in a common ancient Islamic civilization. He pointed out Al-Azhar’s keenness to maintain this relationship through strengthening scientific and knowledge ties with Spain in various aspects, and supporting Spain in the field of training imams and Islamic preachers to confront extremist thought and issues of violence and terrorism.

Mr. Gil-Casares, for his part, expressed his appreciation of Al-Azhar and the wise Grand Imam for the efforts to foster the values of human brotherhood and world peace. He stressed that Al-Azhar is the largest Islamic authority that has great credibility in Spain, the case which makes Spain keen to enable the Spanish Muslim children to study at Al-Azhar as a reliable guarantee of coexistence.
