Al-Azhar moderate discourse exposes falsehood of extremist groups, Swedish Ambassador to the Grand Imam
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Ambassador Jan Thesleff, the Swedish Ambassador to Egypt, accompanied by Dr. Joachim Bergström, Ambassador at the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Sweden's envoy to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar is keen to convey the message of peace that Islam carries to all humanity, pointing out that Al-Azhar was the institution that initiated openness to the major religious institutions in the world, such as the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, and the Canterbury Cathedral. This is because Al-Azhar believes in the importance of building bridges of cooperation and understanding between different civilizations and cultures.
Ambassador Jan Thesleff, for his part, praised the high global status of Al-Azhar, pointing out that the moderate religious discourse it presents has contributed greatly to exposing the falsehood of extremist groups, clarifying the reality of the conflicts created in the name of Islam.
