Al-Azhar keen to provide scientific and intellectual support to brotherly people of Libya, Grand Imam to Libyan delegation
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received a delegation of Libyan tribes.
His Eminence the Grand Imam said, “Al-Azhar strongly supports the ceaseless efforts calling for the reunification of the Libyan society,” denouncing the foreign interventions carried out by some governments, which contributed significantly to enhancing the spirit of division among the Libyan people. He appealed to those governments to stop interfering in Libya’s internal affairs, acting upon whatever noble values they still maintain.
His Eminence stressed that Al-Azhar’s efforts to support Libya during its current crisis, and to confront violence and terrorism, come within the framework of the responsibility it has shouldered for more than a thousand years to preserve the moderation of Islam, and to promote its tolerant teachings among the Muslims all over the world.
The Grand Imam explained that Al-Azhar is keen to provide all aspects of scientific and intellectual support and assistance to the brotherly people of Libya, noting that Al-Azhar has designed a program to train Libyan imams and Islamic preachers to confront extremist thought and the various challenges facing Libyan society.
On the other hand, the delegation of the Libyan tribes thanked His Eminence the Grand Imam for his stances in support of the stability of Libya and the unity of its people. They stressed that invading the Libyan society with some strange ideas contrary to Al-Azhar moderate approach has had an impact on the situation that Libya has come to, in terms of fighting and strife among its people.
