Panama Ambassador lauds HFD and Grand Imam’s efforts to promote tolerance and world peace
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Ambassador Alejandro Ivan Mendoza Gantes, Ambassador of Panama to Egypt.
The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar’s message is based on coexistence between the followers of religions, expressing Al-Azhar’s readiness to strengthen cultural and scientific cooperation with Panama by providing a number of scholarships to Panamanian students, and establishing a centre for teaching Arabic at Al-Azhar’s expense.
His Eminence added that Al-Azhar is keen to train imams from different countries of the world in the latest findings regarding contemporary issues such as refuting extremist ideas, and enhancing values of love, peace and moderation in various parts of the world in order to achieve the most important goal of Islam, which is peace.
The Panamanian Ambassador expressed his great appreciation for Al-Azhar and the Grand Imam, praising His Eminence’s vision on consolidating tolerance and global peace, as expressed in the Human Fraternity Document, consigned by His Eminence with Pope Francis last February. He also expressed his country’s keenness to strengthen its relations with Al-Azhar, being the oldest moderate Islamic institution in the world.
