We’re ready to cooperate with Zayed Foundation to support the African continent, the Grand Imam
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received H.E. Hamad Salem bin Kardous Al Ameri, Director-General of Zayed Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.
The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar is always ready to cooperate with the Zayed Foundation to establish centers for teaching Arabic to non-native speakers in Africa. These centers will be similar to Sheikh Zayed Center for Teaching Arabic to Non-Natives at Al-Azhar University, which has proven very successful during the last period. In addition, Al-Azhar provides scholarships to African students, and trains African imams at Al-Azhar Academy for the training of imams and preachers.
The Grand Imam added that Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif has a distinguished relationship with the United Arab Emirates, as cooperation with UAE institutions during the past period has proved to be successful, and that Al-Azhar is looking forward to more cooperation during the upcoming period.
Mr. Al Ameri, for his part, expressed his foundation's aspiration for further cooperation with Al-Azhar, and for benefitting from its experience in the field of humanitarian and charitable work, especially in the African countries that suffer from a great shortage of Arabic language teachers. He noted that the foundation is in the process of establishing a university in Chad as a start for other projects within the continent.
