The Grand Mufti of Nigeria: Al-Azhar is the backbone of the Muslim nation
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Sheikh Ibrahim Saleh Al-Husseini, Grand Mufti of Nigeria, during the latter’s visit to Cairo.
His Eminence the Grand Imam stated that Muslim scholars shoulder a great responsibility in illustrating true Islam and its clear call for fraternity, acquaintance, and peace among people. He also emphasized that Al-Azhar is largely determined to promote moderation, peace, and acceptance of the other as well as to redress misconceptions about Islam all over the world, especially in Africa.
Grand Imam At-Tayyeb then indicated that Al-Azhar supports the Nigerian people in the fields of education, missionary and culture, asserting that Al-Azhar pays great attention to and cares for Nigerian students, instilling in them the spirit of tolerance and moderation and demonstrating the greatness of Islam and the sublimity of its message through them.
For his part, the Grand Mufti of Nigeria emphasized that Al-Azhar is the backbone of the Muslim nation, expressing his appreciation for and pride of the efforts of the Grand Imam in healing the rift and reuniting Muslims.
Sheikh Al-Hussaini pointed out that Nigeria is fortunate to have benefited a lot from the knowledge and expertise of Al-Azhar through missionary and relief convoys, commending the care and attention given to Nigerian students in this prestigious institution. Sheikh Al-Hussaini also expressed his aspirations for further cooperation and coordination between Al-Azhar and Nigeria in promoting coexistence and peace.
