The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar meets Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education at Harvard Medical School
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Dr. Ajay Singh, Senior Associate Dean for Postgraduate Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, and Dr. Hala Zayed, Minister of Health and Population.
The Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar University is one of the most important fortresses of knowledge in Egypt and the world, with its history spanning for more than a thousand years. He stressed its readiness to cooperate with Harvard University in a way that contributes to raising awareness of the latest developments in the medical field, and graduating qualified cadres capable of achieving future plans in the field of medicine and contemporary sciences.
The Grand Imam explained that the history of Egyptian educational missions to study medicine in Europe started from Al-Azhar, pointing out that it seeks to open up to all major educational institutions in Europe, especially in practical and applied fields. He praised the cooperation and training program under which Harvard University will train Egyptian physicians in teaching methods for doctors studying at the Egyptian fellowship program.
Dr. Singh said he was very happy to meet the Grand Imam as the greatest religious symbol in the Islamic world, stressing Harvard University's keenness to cooperate with Al-Azhar University in a way that contributes to achieving mutual benefit.
Dr. Hala Zayed, for her part, said that cooperation with Harvard University will contribute to reforming the health system in Egypt and to training and preparing distinguished medical staff capable of advancing the health system and achieving the objectives of the Ministry of Health, in line with the sustainable development plans of the Egyptian state.
During the meeting, the Grand Imam presented Dr. Singh with the Human Fraternity Document, which he cosigned with Pope Francis, Pope of the Vatican, in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
