Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Sheikh Mahmoud Sheikh Hassan Farah, Chairman of the Supreme Council of Senior Scholars of Ahl us-Sunnah wa l-Jamaˁah in Somalia.

His Eminence affirmed that he does not hesitate to support Somalia to promote the message of moderate Islam, and to harness all capabilities to correct misconceptions and combat extremist ideas. This is achieved by allocating more grants to students, and increasing Al-Azhar missions that enhance moderate thought, in addition to training and qualifying imams to disseminate the message of Islam, correct misconceptions, and establish security and peace in societies.

Sheikh Mahmoud Hassan, for his part, was pleased to meet the Grand Imam. He emphasized that in Somalia they follow the example of Al-Azhar in applying the tolerance of Islam and peaceful coexistence and teaching the moderate approach of Al-Azhar. He praised the Grand Imam’s efforts to consolidate the values of coexistence, peace and brotherhood among people of different faiths and beliefs, pointing out that Al-Azhar enjoys a great esteem and prestige in all Muslim countries and on the global level.
