Al-Azhar Grand Imam doubles scholarships for Sudanese students
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received today, Tuesday, an official delegation from the brotherly State of Sudan, headed by Dr. Siddiq Tawer, member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in the Sudan. The Grand Imam welcomed the Sudanese delegation and expressed his appreciation for the brotherly Sudan and its noble people. He said that the relations between the two peoples are of a unique type, stressing that Egypt and Sudan have one cause and common concerns. Al-Azhar plays a major role in supporting relations between the two countries. Every year, it receives students and imams and provides them with all means of support and comfort, and this year Al-Azhar has decided to double the scholarships offered to the people of Sudan to reach 200 scholarships, in appreciation and support of the Sudan, all with the correct Azhari approach in the scientific and practical fields.
For his part, the member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council in the Sudan said he had the pleasure of meeting Al-Azhar Grand Imam, and added that he was proud that he himself graduated from Al-Azhar University, where he and his expatriate brothers received all the support and appreciation, and that he had unforgettable memories in Al-Azhar Islamic City of Missions (University Hostel). He stressed Sudan's keenness to enroll its citizens at Al-Azhar to immunize the Sudanese society from the danger of extremist groups that use religion to achieve their malicious goals. The Sudanese delegation also briefed Al-Azhar Grand Imam on the latest developments related to the Renaissance Dam file and emphasized that Egypt and Sudan are making all efforts to solve this crisis. He stressed that the relationship between Egypt and Sudan will remain strong and solid to support the brotherly bonds between them and face common challenges.
