Azhar Center to teach and disseminate Arabic planned, Burundian Ambassador to the Grand Imam
Al-Azhar Grand Imam, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received today, Monday, at Al-Azhar headquarters, Ambassador Sheikh Rashid Malachi Nyirajera, the new Burundian Ambassador to Egypt. At the beginning of the meeting, the Grand Imam welcomed the Burundian Ambassador, stressing that Al-Azhar is proud of its mission to promote the tolerant teachings of Islam, and to support countries and peoples with the moderate thought and approach of Al-Azhar. His Eminence pointed out that Al-Azhar receives 48 students from Burundi, and it has great flexibility in allocating scholarships according to the needs of countries for Arabic, religious and applied science colleges. Al-Azhar supports the dissemination of moderate discourse, citizenship and seeks to correct misconceptions through Al-Azhar Program for Training Imams and Preachers from different countries of the world.
The Burundian Ambassador, for his part, stressed that this first meeting with Al-Azhar Grand Imam is a historic moment for him in view of the great personality and global reputation of the Grand Imam. He indicated that Burundi seeks to establish a center affiliated with Al-Azhar to teach and disseminate the Arabic language and to qualify students to join Al-Azhar University, to benefit from the Imam Training Program, and to receive a larger number of Al-Azhar envoys. All of this will greatly assist the state in achieving security and intellectual stability through Al-Azhar curriculum and its tolerant, moderate thought, which represents true Islam.
