Grand Imam to the Archbishop of Sweden: Al-Azhar communicates with religious institutions to restore peace and happiness to the poor
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received a delegation of the Swedish Church headed by Antje Jackelén, Archbishop of Sweden, during her visit to Cairo.
The Grand Imam stated that to bring peace to the world, there should first be peace among different faith leaders. Therefore, added the Grand Imam, Al-Azhar communicated with the Church of Canterbury, the Vatican, the World Council of Churches, and many world churches and religious institutions to restore peace and happiness to the poor and orphans. Those poor and orphans suffer because of warped policies targeting mundane interests at the expense of common people. His Eminence the Grand Imam explained that the Egyptian society has a successful experience in Muslim-Christian intercommunication and coexistence, as they both represent its common fabric. Hence, Al-Azhar has agreed with the Egyptian churches to present this model to the world through the Egyptian Family House, stressing that citizenship is an umbrella that brings together the citizens who follow different religions. For her part, Archbishop Antje Jackelén affirmed her keenness to learn about Al-Azhar's vision on promoting peace and confronting extremism, terrorism and crimes committed in the name of religion. She added that in all religions canonical texts are often twisted to justify violence, although religions in essence have nothing to do with the criminal acts committed in their names.
