The Grand Imam receives Jordan's Crown Prince and discusses with him the challenges facing Arab youth
Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif received, on Wednesday at the headquarters of Al-Azhar, His Royal Highness Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah, Crown Prince of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. The Grand Imam welcomed the Crown Prince of Jordan to Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, sending his greetings and appreciation to His Majesty King Abdullah II, King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. HE pointed out that Al-Azhar is proud of its strong relationship with the leadership and people of Jordan and it highly values the role of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the Hashemite Kingdom in defending the causes of the Arab and Muslim nations. The Grand Imam also pointed out that the world today is in dire need of young people who can carry the banner of peace, and that today's youth were more fortunate than their predecessors who suffered and experienced the bitterness of wars, conflicts and feelings of hatred that the previous generations have always lived in. “We do not want the current and the future generations to go through that. Therefore, today's youth are much more in dire need for protecting themselves, their present and their future than the peoples of previous eras.”
The Grand Imam added that “it is our duty to cooperate and work together to qualify Arab youth leaders to be capable of advancing our homelands and standing in the face of ideas that are alien to our Arab Eastern cultures and customs. Such ideas aim to distort our authentic heritage, harm our youth, violate our religious sanctities, and invade our societies through the digital world in highly advanced modern ways and methods that facilitate controlling the minds of children and young people”. The Grand Imam of Al-Azhar also expressed his pleasure with the initiatives and efforts of His Highness the Crown Prince who represents an excellent example of a distinguished and promising Arab youth leader doing his best to serve his country and his nation.
On his part, the Jordanian Crown Prince expressed his pleasure to meet His Eminence the Grand Imam and his eagerness to boost cooperation with Al-Azhar, declaring his support to the Grand Imam’s views on the creation of Arab youth models capable of facing contemporary challenges. He also stressed his eagerness to cooperate with Al-Azhar in the implementation of such initiatives and projects that would enhance the role of youth and qualify them to lead and participate in Arab decision-making. The Jordanian Crown Prince also conveyed the greetings of His Majesty King Abdullah II, and His Majesty's invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Jordan. The invitation was welcomed by the Grand Imam who pointed out that Jordan is a dear country he wished to visit in the near future.
