The Grand Imam meets Djibouti’s Minister of Islamic Affairs to discuss educational and dawah support

His Eminence Prof. Ahmad Al-Tayyeb, Al-Azhar Grand Imam (GI), received today, Monday, at Al-Azhar Headquarters, Mr. Moumin Hassan Barreh, the Minister of Islamic Affairs & Charitable Assets of the Republic of Djibouti to discuss ways to enhance educational and dawah support for the people of Djibouti.
His Eminence the Grand Imam said that Al-Azhar is proud of its historical relations with Djibouti, and that it spares no effort to support the people of Djibouti. He pointed out that Al-Azhar hosts 242 male and female students from Djibouti studying at various educational levels.
Al-Azhar also provides its services within the Djiboutian community through Al-Azhar's Wasatiyya Institute. It sends nine of its senior professors to Djibouti to spread Al-Azhar’s message and teach the people of Djibouti Islamic and Arabic sciences. In addition, it provides opportunities to train imams and preachers at Al-Azhar International Academy so that they can get training in the latest methods of preaching.
Mr. Moumin Hassan Barreh expressed his happiness for meeting the Grand Imam and his country's appreciation for what His Eminence is doing in supporting the African nations. He also conveyed to His Eminence the greetings of the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, his wishes for His Eminence to have continued health and wellness, and His Excellency's invitation to the Grand Imam to visit Djibouti and meet the Djiboutian people. He stressed that the Djiboutians love Al-Azhar and its imam, and have great respect and appreciation for Al-Azhar's scholars and professors.
Mr. Barreh thanked His Eminence the Grand Imam for sending Al-Azhar scholars to Djibouti, stressing his country’s efforts to strengthen Al-Azhar’s presence in Djibouti and benefit from its expertise in promoting the use of the Arabic language within the Djiboutian society. He noted that Djibouti has been exposed to campaigns aimed at excluding the Arabic language despite it being the first language as stated by the constitution.
