His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb received Mr. Nabih Berri, Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament, during the latter’s visit to Cairo. The Grand Imam stated that Lebanon is a dear country to the Egyptians. He also stressed that Al-Azhar advocates the unity of the Lebanese people and looks forward to its peaceful exit from its current crisis. The Grand Imam added that Lebanon, through its history of coexistence among all parties and sects, represents a civilizational and cultural tributary to the country and to the entire Arab region.

For his part, the Speaker of the Lebanese Parliament expressed his appreciation for Al-Azhar and for the efforts of the Grand Imam in establishing societal peace and spreading the tolerance of Islam. He also asserted that Al-Azhar has played a significant role in Lebanon for decades, through its missions and scholars, and that it still plays its role in the rational progress of the nation through its documents that are acknowledged in all Lebanese circles.
