Grand Imam and King Faisal University President discuss boosting Al-Azhar’s support for Chad
His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Al-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad al-Tayyeb, received this morning, Monday, at Al-Azhar, Dr. Mohammed Bukhari Hassan, President of King Faisal University in Chad, in the presence of Chad's Ambassador to Egypt, Ambassador Mohamed Abdel Karim. The meeting discussed ways to enhance Al-Azhar's support for the Chadian people and affirm Al-Azhar's role in supporting African nations.
His Eminence affirmed that Al-Azhar does not hesitate to support the peoples of the African continent scientifically and through its ways of dawah. He noted that this is achieved through scholarships and Al-Azhar envoys who disseminate Al-Azhar's knowledge around the world, in addition to training courses for imams and preachers, which aim to enable them to refute extremist thought and consolidate a culture of peaceful coexistence and positive integration among the various components of societies.
The President of King Faisal University in Chad expressed his happiness at meeting with the Grand Imam, and his appreciation for the Grand Imam’s efforts in supporting African peoples and emphasizing that the approach adopted by Chad is the same moderate approach of Al-Azhar. He also explained that communication with Al-Azhar represents a fundamental pillar of the university's work, adding, “We are now in dire need of Al-Azhar's support, as our university is moving towards establishing applied colleges such as medicine and pharmacy. We have requested the renewal of the cooperation protocol signed with Al-Azhar University, which relates to sending Al-Azhar University professors to teach its curricula, and supporting the university's recently opened Faculty of Medicine with specialized professors. We will also qualify and train researchers in postgraduate studies at Al-Azhar University, increase scholarships allocated to Chadian students, and establish a center for teaching the Arabic language at the university.”
