His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Chairman of the Council of Muslim Elders, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received Mr. Marzouq Al-Ghanim, Kuwait’s National Assembly Speaker, who arrived in Cairo to participate in Al-Azhar International Conference in Support of Jerusalem. At the beginning of the meeting, the Grand Imam welcomed Mr. Al-Ghanim to Al-Azhar Headquarters and noted that he had accepted the invitation to attend the conference, at the head of a high-profile delegation of Kuwaiti National Assembly members. He also praised Kuwait’s historical stances in support of Arab and Muslim causes, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, and saluted Mr. Al-Ghanim for his courageous stance during the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting last October, when he stood up to face the representative of the Zionist entity and debunked his lies.

For his part, Mr. Al-Ghanim expressed his thanks and appreciation to the Grand Imam, and his pride in the invitation he received to participate in this important event. In this regard, he stressed that the Grand Imam’s stances in support of the nation’s causes and his moderate and enlightened approach have become a basic pillar for all advocates of peace, coexistence and dialogue in the world. Mr. Al-Ghanim explained that Al-Azhar International Conference in Support of Jerusalem gives forceful messages about the nation’s firm attachment to the Arab-Islamic identity of Jerusalem and Palestinian sovereignty on it. According to him, the conference also constitutes an important step on the track of formulating a standard Arab-Islamic vision in response to the US President’s decision to declare occupied Jerusalem as the capital of the Zionist entity.

Then, the Grand Imam presented Al-Azhar Shield to Mr. Al-Ghanim in appreciation of the stances of the State of Kuwait and the Kuwaiti National Assembly in support of the Palestinian cause.
