His Eminence the Grand Imam of Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif, Prof. Ahmad At-Tayyeb, received members of the National Elections Authority (NEA), headed by Counselor Lashin Ibrahim, NEA Chairman. The NEA member judges asserted that the Grand Imam has managed to build up bridges of dialogue and understanding with major religious institutions in the world, redressing the image of Islam and refuting the extremist groups’ misconceptions. They added that Al-Azhar Ash-Sharif has become a successful national model in all fields, and that the Grand Imam’s patriotic stances are exemplary. Counselor Ibrahim confirmed that all NEA members were keen to visit the Grand Imam in appreciation of his role and of the nationalist role of Al-Azhar. For his part, the Grand Imam praised the NEA role in managing the electoral processes with integrity and transparency. He added that the Egyptian Constitution’s articles on the independence of the authority reflect to the outside world the seriousness of the Egyptians in pursuing the democratic path in a manner that befits Egypt, its history, and its noble people.
